Sausal Wines
White Wine
Sausal Blanc - This 100% Chenin Blanc is a crisp, off-dry, light
wine loaded with fruit. With the acid and sweetness in perfect balance,
and aromas of melon and peach, this is the ideal wine to serve well chilled
on a hot summer day.
Zinfandel
Cellar
Cats Red - This is a non-vintage estate zinfandel named after Sophie
and Gypsie, the twoblack cats that have taken over the winery. This is
our lightest, fruitiest Zinfandel that is an easy sipper on a warm night.
If you choose, it pairs nicely with hamburgers, mild cheeses or appetizers.
Family Zinfandel - This estate Zinfandel is produced from dry
farmed vines that average 50 years of age. Following fermentation, the
wine is aged twenty months in a combination of American and French oak
barrels, adding complexity. The result is a soft and approachable Zinfandel.
Pair this wine with spicy pasta, pork or grilled chicken. The Family Zinfandel
will cellar well for at least six years.
Private Reserve Zinfandel - This estate Zinfandel is produced
from dry farmed 90-year-old vines. This wine is aged for seventeen months
in French oak barrels, yielding a jammy and dense Zinfandel. The balanced,
but abundant fruit in this wine make it a delicious complement to roasted
and grilled meats, rich pastas, and hearty stews. The Private Reserve
Zinfandel will cellar well for at least ten years.
Century Vines Zinfandel - Our finest estate Zinfandel is produced
from dry farmed vines that are over 100 years old. These vines, planted
in 1877 along Sausal Creek still produce fruit that we believe embody
the truest Zinfandel varietal characteristics. The wine then ages for
24 months in French oak barrels. This Zinfandel is elegant and complex,
and will pair well with juicy steak, wild game or marinated pork. The
Century Vines Zinfandel will cellar well for at least eight years.
Other Red Varietals
Cabernet
Sauvignon - Like all Sausal varietals, this comes from 100% estate
grown grapes. This wine is also 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and so displays
the true character and flavors of this widely know varietal. After twenty
months in American oak barrels, this wine is allowed to rest another five
months in the bottle. The result is a rich, classic, Alexander Valley
Cabernet. This wine pairs very well with leg of lamb, grilled skirt steak
or veal parmigiana. Our Cabernet will cellar well for at least five years.
Sangiovese - Sangiovese is a Tuscan varietal often associated
with Chianti. Our Sangiovese is 100% estate grown on the Sausal Ranch
in Alexander Valley. This wine is bright and tart with red fruit, but
also has a wonderful spice that is characteristic of Alexander Valley.
Our Sangiovese pairs wonderfully with pastas, pizza and grilled meats,
as well as fruit and cheeses. A typical Sangiovese, it drinks fruity and
bright now, but if you choose to cellar this wine it will get spicier
and earthier over the next six years.
Red Blends
Sogno
Della Famiglia - Translates to The Family's Dream. This Italian blend
was made as a tribute to the owners' father. Blending our estate Zinfandel,
Sangiovese, and Carignane produces a rich wine with the perfect balance
of fruit and spice. This wine pairs well with hearty meat sauces or grilled
meat. The Famiglia will cellar well for at least seven years.
Sogni d' Oro - Translates to Golden Dreams. This Italian blend
includes estate Zinfandel, Sangiovese, Carignane and Petite Sirah. This
wine is aged for twenty months in French oak barrels. The result is a
full-bodied wine of blue and red fruit with a silky finish. The Oro is
ready to be enjoyed now.
